Echoview Step Up for Clean Up Australia Day 2021
2 March 2021
Did you know that each person in Australia produces roughly 540kg of household waste each year? That’s more than 10kg of waste, per person, every single week! Further, according to a 2017 Clean Up Australia report, only 55% of all waste generated was recycled, and about 130,000 tonnes of Australian plastic ends up in our oceans and waterways each year.
So, in the spirit of Clean Up Australia Day coming up this Sunday (7th of March), today the Echoview Software team closed the laptops, left the office and hit the shoreline at the picturesque Geilston Bay on Hobart’s eastern shore, doing our bit to step up and pledge to keep our part of the world clean and tidy.
Clean Up Australia have a mantra, and as Australia’s waste challenges continue to grow, we know we need to be a part of Stepping Up and supporting solutions that will lead to a circular economy – where everything is a resource, and there is no such thing as waste.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) state that the majority of pollutants that make their way into the ocean come from human activities along coastlines and even from far inland. We all have a responsibility to do our part for the health of our oceans and waterways to Step Up.
So how can you Step Up?
- Say no to straws
- Bring your own water bottle
- Buy recycled products
- Don’t subscribe to buying fast fashion
- Steer clear of fruits and vegetables wrapped in plastic
To quote the Zero-Waste Chef (Anne Marie Bonneau), “We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly”.
Echoview is proud to do our bit, so check out our photos, like them on Facebook and be part of inspiring your friends and family to make a change and pledge to #stepUptoCleanUp and tag us @echoviewsoftware and the team @cleanUpAustralia.
