Echoview 9 update for the calculation of effective pulse duration in Simrad EK80 reduced file size CW data

24 October 2018

Echoview 9.0.323 was recently made available in the Echoview Software Updater and as a download on our website, and includes an important update for data collected with Simrad EK80 software version 1.12.1 or earlier.

Data recorded in EK80 software version 1.12.1 or earlier are missing a value required for the calculation of effective pulse duration of reduced file size (i.e. stored in Power/Angle or Reduced Power/Angle mode) CW data, which results in incorrect Sv values.  Echoview 9.0.323 addresses this missing value, and effective pulse duration and Sv calculations for reduced file size CW data are correct.

If you are processing reduced file size EK80 CW data that were originally collected with Simrad EK80 software version 1.12.1 or earlier (whether data were reduced during data collection or afterward), it is important that you use this update.

Data that are not reduced, or data that have been collected with Simrad EK80 software version 1.12.2 or later will not be affected by this update.

Further changes to EK80 CW and/or FM mode calculations are possible, and so we continue to recommend that data from this new technology are used with this understanding. See the release notes available via the Echoview Software Updater for more information on other changes, or additional changes made since this news post was published.
