Welcome to Echoview 5.1!

This new version builds on the foundations laid in 5.0 for a faster, easier data-processing experience. This short release aims to quickly bring you the following new features that we hope you'll find useful for your work. The following features are our favourites from this release:

Background Noise Removal operator

Single beam and split-beam Sv data can benefit from our new one step Background noise removal operator. The operator is based on concepts from De Robertis and Higginbottom (2007) and assumes that some portion of the sampled acoustic signal is dominated by background noise. The process was previously achievable using a combination of 12 operators, and now it only requires one!

Four settings specify the size and nature of the averaging cell used to determine the noise estimate.

Two Threshold settings specify the Maximum Noise and Minimum SNR for the algorithm.

Line-referenced analysis cells

You can now create analysis cells based on a line. Until now, cells were based on either depth (the water surface) or range (the transducer face). You can now use features like the bottom as the reference-line for an echogram grid. This feature is supported by:

  • additional analysis export variables relating to the Grid reference line
  • COM support for EvGrid.DepthRangeReferenceLine and the new EDepthRangeGridMode enum eDRReferenceLine = 2
  • a positive real number value for the horizontal grid separation, including the ability to define <1m separation

This feature combined with other line-related design changes and enhancements will improve your line and analysis workflow.

Multi-threaded operators

Almost half our 110+ operators are now multi-threaded!

Multi-threaded operators process faster on multiple core computer systems. They are denoted by a running hare when you create a New variable in the Dataflow window.

Echoview performance improvements flow on from this increased level of multi-threading and Windows memory management.

Automatic version updater

Help menu > Check for Updates

With our new Updater feature, save time by updating Echoview automatically. The Updater makes it easy to keep up with bug fixes and changes to licenses or dongles.

Other new features in this release include:

  • The depth/range grid line now allows separation values of <1m
  • Options for line visibility on echograms when you create a new editable line.
  • An additional single beam Echogram Display setting: Automatically set the display limits of based on the loaded pings
  • The Mask operator now supports Single target input operands.
  • Double-clicking on a line to make it active
  • Integration dialogs now list layer and interval numbers
  • Grids now offer the option of absolute or relative interval numbering

See the New in Echoview 5.1 for all users page in the Help file that is installed with Echoview 5.1 beta for more details on all new features in this release.
