Display page

The Display page of the Variable Properties dialog box is used to control the way data is displayed in echogram, cruise track or some graph windows.

This page displays settings relevant to the type of variable as follows:

  1. Sections for all acoustic variables

  2. when Display propertiesfor selects Echogram
when Display propertiesfor selects Cruise track

  3. Sections for single target variables only

    Sections for multibeam variables only

  1. when Display propertiesfor selects Echogram
when Display propertiesfor selects Cruise track

  2. Sections for position variables

Note: A different page is displayed for acoustic and position variables; some variables have special sections on this page.

Sections for all acoustic variables (Echogram)

Echogram colors

The Echogram colors section is used to define the colors used in displaying echograms. It is visible only if Echogram is selected under Display properties for.

For most acoustic variables the following settings are available:

Settings

Description

Color display minimum

Sets the value below which all data values will be displayed in the Below threshold color of the selected color scheme.

Note: If the minimum threshold specified on the Data page is higher than the Color display minimum specified here, the data threshold specified on the Data page will define the lowest value displayed.

The keyboard shortcuts, F11 and F12, will adjust this value when used in an echogram window.

Color display range

Sets the range of data values which are mapped to the selected color scheme. All values above (Color display minimum + Color display range) will be displayed in the color schemes Above (threshold + range) color.

Color Scheme

Choose from pre-defined or customized echogram color schemes.

User-defined color schemes can be created and edited with the Echocolor application supplied with Echoview. If you add, remove or change the color-scheme files in this folder you will need to restart Echoview before those changes take effect.

Note: If a custom color scheme has the same name as a predefined color scheme, its name will have " (.evc file)" appended to it to denote this. See About color schemes for further information.

To select a color response curve click . The default color response is linear.

For angular position variables the following settings are available:

Settings

Description

Minor-axis angle range

Enter the range of minor-axis beam angles to display. The values you enter must be between 0.01 and 90 degrees.

Minor- axis color scheme

Choose from pre-defined or customized color schemes. See note below.

Major-axis angle range

Enter the range of major-axis beam angles to display. The values you enter must be between 0.01 and 90 degrees.

Major-axis color scheme

Choose from pre-defined or customized color schemes. See note below.

Notes:

Echogram display limits

The Echogram display limits section is used to set the upper and lower display limits for the echogram. It is visible only if Echogram is selected under Display properties for.

Settings

Description

Upper display limit

Defines the smallest depth/range displayed in the echogram.

Lower display limit

Defines the largest depth/range displayed in the echogram.

Upper and lower display limits are entered in meters and will apply to either depth or range depending on the mode selected on the Echogram page of the EV File Properties dialog box.

The first time an echogram is displayed from an EV file, the upper and lower display limits are set to display the full depth range of the first echogram telegram (the first ping) in the first data file in the file list. The limits of the echogram data may vary between data files or even within the one data file but the data can still be displayed correctly by Echoview. It may, however, be necessary to manually change the upper or lower display limits if the data range of some data is greater than the data range in the first ping.

The upper and lower display limits cannot be overridden by zooming out. To see parts of the echogram outside the currently displayed limits the above settings must be changed.

Echogram general display options

The general display options for echograms are as follows:

Settings

Description

Integram analysis

Choose an analysis to display in the integram area of the echogram. You can choose from:

  • Ping status

  • Mean Sv (on Sv echograms only)

  • Maximum Sv on Sv echograms only)

Integration line

Choose to display an Integration line for the data in an Integration rectangle on the echogram.

You can choose from:

Integration line

Description

None

No Integration line displayed

In window

Display an Integration line for the data in the visible window.

In intervals

Display an Integration line for the data in an interval. The integration rectangle is defined by the height of the visible window and the width of the interval.

In cells

Display an Integration line for the data in a cell.

Note: While the echogram or the Variable Properties dialog box is active, you can change the Integration rectangle (successively) using CTRL+SHIFT+I

To choose the color of the Integration line

  1. Click the colored square beside Integration line.

  2. Select a basic color or create a custom color.

  3. Click OK.

See Integration line algorithm for more information.

Sections for all acoustic variables (Cruise track)

Cruise track

The Cruise track section is used for along-track displays. It is visible only on Sv variables and only if Cruise track is selected under Display properties for.

Settings

Description

Along-track analysis

Choose an analysis for along-track display.

Along-track width

Sets the width (in pixels) of the along-track cruise track that will be displayed for the variable.

Cruise track colors

The Cruise track colors section is used for along-track displays. It is visible only on Sv variables and only if Cruise track is selected under Display properties for.

Settings

Color scheme

Choose from pre-defined or customized color schemes.

User-defined color schemes can be created and edited with the Echocolor application supplied with Echoview. Note that if you add, remove or change the color-scheme files in this folder you will need to restart Echoview before those changes take effect.

Note: If a custom color scheme has the same name as a predefined color scheme, its name will have " (.evc file)" appended to it to denote this. See About color schemes for further information.

To select a color response curve click . The default color response is linear.

Note: The three cruise track color settings are only available for some analysis variables (choose an analysis variable in the Cruise track section). Along-track displays of Mean Sv, Minimum Sv, and Maximum Sv are displayed with the Echogram color settings. Along-track displays of ping status display the user-defined colors.

Cruise track general display options

The general display options for cruise tracks are used for along-track displays. They are visible only on Sv variables and only if Cruise track is selected under Display properties for.

Settings

Sections for single target variables

The Sections for all acoustic variables (echogram) are displayed as well as the following section:

Single target display

for H-mode variables only, following option is also available:

Orientation

Select either North up or Head up.

If North up is selected then the echogram will be oriented such that geographic north is in the upwards on the screen.

If Head up is selected then the echogram will be oriented such that heading of the vessel is in the upwards direction on the screen.

The beam numbering in either case is instrument specific. See Furuno FSV-30 (Research version).
