You navigate around an echogram using a combination of scroll bars, mouse clicks, menu commands and keyboard shortcuts.
Note: The navigation methods described on this page do not apply to 3D windows, see 3D Navigation for more information.
You scroll through an echogram using:
the scroll bars; or
the arrow keys on the keyboard.
Note: You can use the arrows keys to scroll while you are making a selection.
Zooming allows you to change the magnification level in the echogram window, e.g. to focus in on specific part of an echogram. For singlebeam and multibeam echograms and cruise tracks you can use the mouse wheel to zoom in and zoom out. A Zoom toolbar is available, as well as the following keyboard shortcuts.

|
Zoom out |
Undoes the effect of the previous zoom in action: i.e. if you zoomed in on a selection, zoom out will return you to the level of magnification at which the selection was made; if you zoomed in without making a selection, zoom out will reduce the magnification level by a factor of two. To zoom out do one of the following:
Note: If you continue to select Zoom Out you will return to Echoview's least magnified view. |

If more than one echogram window is open in an EV file then all echograms can be synchronized to show the same area of data.
To synchronize echograms, press A or on the Shortcut (right-click) menu, click Synchronize.
An echogram, cruise track, or video window can be added to the auto-synchronized group using a toolbar button,
or a shortcut key (SHIFT+A). You can see if a window is in the auto-synchronized group by the status of this toolbar button when the window is active (in focus). The button appears depressed if the window is in the auto-synchronized group and raised if not.
When a window is added to the auto-synchronized group it is immediately synchronized to the windows already in the group, if there are any.
For this purpose each window has a time determined as follows:
| single beam echograms: | the time of the ping nearest the center of the echogram window |
| multibeam echograms: | the time of the ping currently visible (seen in the status bar) |
| cruise tracks: | the time is marked with a cross hair (cruise tracks are only slaves in the auto-synchronized group, the cross hairs move in response to echogram navigation. |
| video window | the time of the frame associated with the video slider position of the video window. The Playback time and Frame number are displayed to the side of the slider control. |
On single beam echograms a dashed marker, that can be dragged by the mouse pointer, identifies the current ping. Any echogram in the auto-synchronized group can be used to control:
Note: Auto-synchronizing a window does not change the zoom level. You can synchronize manually however to maintain matching zoom levels and times.
