A raw variable is a variable that has been derived directly from a data file. The raw variables that are derived from a particular data file are a function of:
the data type(s) stored in the file
the physical configuration of and settings used on the logging device (e.g. number of transducers, what data to log)
Echoview's ability to interpret the data.
A list of all raw variables derived from the data file(s) in a fileset is displayed in the raw variables section of the Filesets window.
The complete name of a raw variable takes the form of:
Fileset:Variable
Where:
Fileset is the name of the fileset in which the raw variable is defined (by the presence of data files)
Variable is the name of the variable. See Raw variables derived from your file format below.
Raw variables are created when a data file is added to a fileset. If data files are removed, the raw variables remain, but become unavailable. The variable properties are retained, and they will be applied to any new raw variables with the same (complete) name (created by adding data files to the appropriate fileset).
