Using Templates

Use templates to apply your own default settings for Variable Properties, EV File Properties and Region Classifications.
The settings in a template file will be automatically applied to a new EV file when you create it.

To create a template in Echoview:

  1. Create or open an EV file.
  2. Set all the Variable Properties (Grid, Display, Data etc), EV File Properties (Lines, Schools, etc) and any region classifications you typically use.
  3. Choose Save as from the File Menu.
  4. Name your EV file and save it into the Templates folder. The Templates folder is located wherever Echoview is installed
  5. When you create a new EV file, you will now be given the option to use this file as a template.
  6. Your new EV file will automatically have the same settings as your template file.
  7. Any EV file saved to the Templates folder will be treated as an EV file template.
  8. You can create as many templates as you like.

Live Viewing templates

If you want to use a template for EV files created when you are live viewing, simply:
  1. Follow steps 1-3 above
  2. Name the EV file Default-Datatype.EV or Equipment-Datatype.EV. Equipment refers to the network name of the computer that is running Echolog when live-viewing. For example, if a computer running Echolog 500 is called "WheelHouse" then call your live-viewing template WheelHouse-500.EV.
  3. Save your EV file into the Live Viewing Templates folder.
The Live Viewing Templates folder will be located wherever Echoview is installed.

Virtual Variables and templates

You can design templates to automatically create virtual variables when a new EV file is created.
Echoview will create any virtual variables defined in the template file providing the operand variables are present in the new data.
