Changing the virtual variable color scheme

Echoview initially displays all virtual variables with the default color scheme.

This tip teaches you how to change the default color scheme that is automatically displayed when you create a virtual variable in Echoview.

Note:

  • You will need the Echoview CD.
  • You will also need to have Echocolor installed on your computer. This will only take a few minutes.

Installing Echocolor from CD:

  1. Insert your Echoview CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer
  2. When the opening window appears, click Browse CD.
  3. Open the Useful Items folder.
  4. Open the Echocolor folder.
  5. Double-click on Setup.exe to run the Echocolor Installation program.
  6. Follow the prompts to install Echocolor.
If you accepted the defaults, Echocolor should now appear on your Start Programs list under SonarData.

Installing Echocolor from SonarData website.

Alternatively, you can download Echocolor from the Sonardata website.

To change the default color scheme:

  1. Insert your Echoview 3 CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
  2. If the opening window appears, click Exit.
  3. Run Echocolor, the following window will appear:

  4. Choose Open from the File Menu, or click the Open File icon on the toolbar.
  5. Browse to the Echoview CD
  6. Open the Useful items folder
  7. Open the Inbuilt color schemes folder.
  8. Choose the color scheme usually used for displaying your data.  For example, if your echosounder is a BioSonics echosounder, choose DT4.evc.
  9. Click Open.
  10. In the Echocolor window, choose Save As from the File menu.
  11. Browse to the Color schemes folder located where you installed Echoview. Typically, the Color schemes folder is located at C:\Program files\Sonardata\Echoview4\Color schemes.
  12. Name the file Default.EVC.
  13. Close Echocolor.
The next time you run Echoview and create a new virtual variable, the echogram will be displayed with the color scheme you saved in the Color schemes folder as Default.evc. Note: You will need to restart Echoview for these changes to take affect.
